Hey there. So I recently, September 29th, I got my Google Wave invite. I had signed up way back when they were taking requests for invites when they unveiled the project.
I thought with all the hype, I'd like to post a mini "review" about it.
So far, I think it's pretty good. It's smooth, even though it's still in beta it has some nice features.and I'd like to see more extensions/gadgets, but overall I think it's pretty nice. It's relatively fast, easy to manuever, etc.
Editing waves looks very nice, and I love the playback tool. I could definitely see businesses using this to do meeting notes, and thanks to the video chat feature (one on one though, but I'm sure video conferencing will come!) they could even have a whole mini meeting on Wave alone. It would be great for small business owners to get in touch with employee's and other people they need to be in contact with.
While it may not defeat email, it is still an extremely useful thing. With the ability to add photo's, video's, and other files you may want to add, you won't have to compose your email, add attachments, send it and then have to forward it and go through the prolonged sending process of images/videos/files again. If you wan't someone else to join this wave later on in the wave, there's no forwarding and waiting. You simply invite that contact to the wave, and boom.
Not only can people in the wave view the wave, but they can also edit the wave and add photos or videos or other files, add additional notes, etc! The possibilities are endless. I'm not quite sure how I could use Wave, but I must say I like it. If you plan on using it when it comes out, or when you get an invite, how will you use it?
